Narration-
The question typically leads to physical geography where-
- the straightforward demand is just to explain the reason
- why don't have deltas formation on Western Ghat.
- Please note we don't need to go into the formation process of the deltas on the Western Ghat, but
- the factors that are indispensable for the formation of deltas that we are not finding over the Western Ghat.
Actually, -
- The sense of question originates from
- The comparative geographical studies in respect of delta formation between Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats
- Concerning Indian geography.

Answer Structure-
- Introduction to the question in respect of landforms, not in respect of the process of delta formation.
A suitable diagram of river stages so the examiner would know you have a complete understanding of all the stages of the river and its courses with resultant landforms.
- Explain the reason why we don't have landforms on the Western Ghats.
- I have said the question has been asked in the context of comparative geographical features present over the eastern ghats, so we need to conclude the answer in the comparative study by reflecting the geographical spatiality of the Western Ghat.
Answer-
Every river, in
general, has 03 stages which are decided with the slope gradient and the
resultant topographical features/ landforms, in which the delta formation is a
third stage feature having the lowest slope gradient, resulting in a high amount of
sediment deposition and landforms, the delta.
The water flow follows the slope gradient, along with supplementary factors such as sediment quantity and horizontal topographical expansion, in addition to, minimum amount
of erosional forces, then we have the formation of deltas landform. So, if, in a
place we don't have this combination, certainly there are some geographical
factors which we are going to analyze here.
So, if we do not have delta formation on the Western Ghats, mainly 03 factors are responsible:
- First, there is depositional rate variation,
- second, disproportional presence of coastal landforms, and,
- Third season rainfall pattern.
Now, if we closely study Eastern Ghat, in comparison to Western Ghat, the reasons are altogether different, where we have a high quantity of sedimentation, so -
- higher rate of deposition,
- low slope gradient, and
- more horizontal distribution of receiving monsoon precipitation.
So basically, we are
not finding the ideal geographical conditions for the formation of deltas on the Western Ghats.
