How does heat affect air travel ? !! Hot weather affect airplanes ?? !! How does heat travel in air? !! Could be one of reason of Plane Crash of "Ahmedabad" international airports, Gujarat?
Index-
- What is atmosphere -& its composition?
- Relationship between the atmospheric concentration, the Earth's shape, and gravity?
- What is "air pressure"?
- How does the air pressure, along with water vapour, affect air travel?
- Consequences?
- Concluding note.
If we go into the definition of atmosphere, it says,
- a blanket which surrounds the Earth.
In addition, if we look at the structure of the atmosphere, we see that it is composed of -
- air,
- water vapour, and
- dust particles.
Simultaneously,
-
- If we can divide the atmosphere based on structural components,
- Then we have either heavier or lighter elements.
Now, that blanket of
atmosphere sticks to the earth just because the earth's gravitational pull /
gravitational force or in simple words, the "gravity."
Gravity is different, according to the mass of an element, which means that on the high mass element, the gravitational force is higher, and on the light element, it is lower.
So, it results in -
- Heavier elements are more concentrated at or near the surface of Earth,
- This suggests the stratification of our Earth's atmosphere based on gravity.
So, due to that, the density is determined, which is-
- highest at the Earth's crust, and
- decreases gradually with increasing altitude.
So, up till now,-
- We came to understand that
- The atmosphere has its mass,
- And mass in combination with gravity becomes weight?
- Which is the highest at Earth's crust
- This means the atmosphere's density is highest at the Earth's crust.
In further detail,
-
- The gravity is highest at the pole and lowest at the equator just because of the "geoid shape" of the Earth.
- which, due to the shorter length of the polar radius, is closer to the Earth's gravity centre, and so maintains a high gravitational force.
- This high gravity, in combination with the lowest temperature over the poles, makes the density of the atmosphere highest at the poles.
If this is the case, then we can easily understand what the situation could be over the equator-
- Which maintains the highest distance from the gravity Centre, and
- Also, the higher temperature makes the air pressure of the atmosphere lowest.
With this notion from another
geographical point of view, we must understand that temperature inversely, but
proportionally, affects the density of the atmosphere.
- Which creates a higher temperature, lowering the atmospheric pressure (density).
- Lowering the atmospheric pressure means less air supporting the aircraft.

How does heat affect
air travel?
- Extreme heat is becoming a severe crisis for the aviation industry.
- Oxygen is the most important component for burning.
- High temperature means less air pressure,
- Less air pressure means the expansion of air through the air current.
- The second negative consequence is that high heat means high vaporisation means a high amount of water vapour,
- resulting in trapping more heat because it is a greenhouse gas effect.
- That means less oxygen to burn, which decreases the aircraft engine thrust significantly.
- Now, in the second case, with more water moisture, resulting in cooling down of burning process inside the engine.
Consequences-
- To compensate for this atmospheric change, now the flights get late because some flights wait to pass by the time 3:00 p.m. so, the temperature is getting somewhat down.
- In another measure, offloading the passenger and their respective luggage. We have experience 01 week before when the flight from "Bangalore" and "Chennai" reached "Patna" without passenger luggage. The clarification came from Air India that the weight was too high to take off on the flight.
- - High burning rate of fuel.
- - Higher heat of the troposphere causes high air turbulence.
Concluding Note-
- It's a crisis of collateral damage,
- which would affect the whole economy, and
- In the last, the social structure and its bonding.
