Motions of Earth

Earth has two types of motion which are

  1. Rotation, and, the second one is a
  2. Revolution.

Rotation

·         The motion in which Earth revolves on its axis is called rotation.

·         The speed of the rotation is 462 meters per second.

·         While the direction is from west to east.

·         Rotation causes day and night on the earth and

            distribution of temperature.

Revolution

  1. ·         The motion in which Earth in its orbit revolves around the sun is known as revolution.
  2. ·         The speed of the revolution is 29.8 kilometers per second that is, on average, 30 kilometers per second.
  3. ·         The direction of the revolution is from west to east.

·         Revolution cause-

  1.       increasing and decreasing the length of day and night -&-
  2.       the transformation of the season on the earth.

Orbital plane

  1. The definite route, in respect of angle, in space
  2. Following which Earth revolves around the sun is known as the orbit plane.

Elliptical orbit

  • The shape of Earth's orbit is elliptical that's why known as an elliptical orbit.

Circle of illumination

  • ·  As we know the light we receive on the earth is coming from the Sun.
  •     Always almost 50% portion of the earth faces the sun where we have day and the rest 50% portion which is not face the sun where we have night.
  • ·  The circumference line over the Earth which is the boundary of day and night is known as the circle of illumination.

 Several seasons

·         On Earth, we have four seasons those are summer, rain, season autumn, and winter.

·         The transformation of the season is the outcome effect of revolution.

Summer solstice

·         Due to the revolution that positions the earth when we have a maximum difference in the length of day and night that is called solstice.

·         When the day de is longer and the temperature is high it is called the summer solstice.

·         The date of the summer solstice is the 21st of June every year.

 Winter solstice

·         When we have a night longer than the day and it is winter outside we call it winter solstice.

·         We have winter solstice on the 22nd of December every year

 Equinox

·         The situation when we have day and night of equal length on the earth is known as Equinox.

·         The date of Equinox on the earth is the 21st of March and the 23rd of September.
